My weekends are becoming very event filled. I am always amazed how much one day can hold when college students just play and skip the sleep part of life! By Sunday, I was exhausted, but it was a very fun weekend. Once work ended at 5 on Friday, we all loaded in the cars and headed up the canyon to go camping with our FHE brothers. They have become great friends of ours and we always have a good time with them. Although, camping with boys was a whole new experience than the girls camping and road trips I've done in the past. We arrived at the beautiful campground, Hope Campground, to find out it was full. But there was another one just up the canyon, Rock Canyon Campground
, a little ways up the canyon on a bumpy dirt road. So the boys needed to take the lead and all jumped in the back of the truck to go find a spot for us. After finding a spot, they came back down to give the other three cars the go-ahead. Although, once we were up there, we learned Rock Canyon doesn't have any potty's or running water. It was quite an adventure. I was telling my dad how grateful I am for the knowledge of all the "know-hows" of camping, especially being able to relieve myself in the wilderness when there are no
access to bathrooms. I am also amazed at how long some girls can hold it when they just don't want to go in the trees! :) It was funny to watch these boys stand in amazement when we just started building the fire or putting up our own tent- nothing spectacular. But some of them are from LA, and they just didn't realize girls did those sorts of things. The girls brought tin foil dinner's loaded with veggies and potatoes and spices-mmm. The guys brought hot dogs and a can of baked beans that they stuck right in the fire...guys and girls really are a whole different breed. We all had s'mores and had a good time talking, laughing, and singing. When it was time for bed, the girls just sat silently laughing in our tent at the boys whining and complaining about the tree or rock they were sleeping on. The boys would pull out each other's tent poles and watch the tent collapse on each other when they were trying to sleep. Once again, I'm glad I'm a girl, and I 'm glad they didn't touch our tent ;) Then in the morning we had breakfast, packed up camp and went for a hike. I learned th
e coolest thing- all you campers- instant oatmeal packets
were designed with a waxey coating on the inside, so you can put water right into the package. It was so good! I highly recommend it. Overall, it was fun to get to know them more and we were all so grateful that we have good friends that we could trust and wh
o would take good care of us!
