Living with the Shorten's has been a wonderful adventure and experience and has allowed me plenty of good times. Aside from their everyday excitements of Monday night Jam sessions (yes Laurie plays the drums and Steve the electric guitar and they are in a total legit band...and they are in their 50's...so cool!), taking in nice homeless ladies (like myself), teaching piano lessons, parenting the whole singles ward, waking up at hours only the birds should know to work on a new project or in the yard (yes, this part makes me feel right at home), they also love to play! So being the newest member of the Shorten's I get to go play with them. They invited me to a weekend get away up to Whistler. It is a fancy ski lodge in Canada, like Park City-esk. Jaimie, their daughter and my former roommate was home for the weekend and it was so fun to have her there while I am with her generous family. It was gorgeous up there, we skied for a day and hung out for a day. This was one of the top 2 best skiing days of my life (second only to skiing snowbird on the 4th of July)! It had just snowed the day prior and it was bright, sunny and beautiful. The snow was great, the people were great, at the mountain tops we had breathe taking exquisite views, and it was a week day so there were no crowds and it felt like we had the whole mountain to ourselves. It was wonderful! We spent one evening window shopping in the little village of this Canada winter wonderland.
On the way home, we unfortunately got a flat tire, but fortunately it was right by a beautiful park and dock (picture below), we got to hang out here for a couple hours. (It was also a nice break from the cozy car trip of 7 adults in the Escalade...AND 7 peoples snow gear and stuff...and food to feed 7 mounth's. Yes, it was cozy and bonding in every way).
